Selling a home in Minneapolis Minnesota

Truth in Sale of Housing Minneapolis

When you sell a house in Minneapolis, the City requires an evaluation to keep housing safe. According to the Minneapolis website homes must have a full TISH Report before showing the home for sale. In this article we take a brief look at the Mpls TISH Program and its requirement's and offer some helpful links to get you ready to sell a home in Minneapolis.

Truth in Sale of Housing or TISH as its called in Minneapolis is a city based housing inspection program, designed to enforce compliance to housing codes and to set a level of safety in the city of Minneapolis for homes. Minneapolis is not alone in requiring inspections. Many cities in the state of Minnesota have created inspection programs for when homes sell, or transfer title.

What makes Minneapolis different in this regard, is inspections are completed by contractors who are authorized by the city to complete the TISH evaluation. That means in most cases the Home Owner is responsible for finding an evaluator, scheduling a time for the inspection and payment.

The cost of the inspection is the home owners responsibility and is negotiable with the evaluator. I appreciate the city of MPLS doing is best to add some competition into the process and utilizing the private sector to offer the consumers flexibility in the process.

Spreadsheet of city approved evaluators, follow the link to see the Minneapolis housing evaluator contact page on the city website.

I would recommend 3 calls to evaluators at a minimum. If you know somebody on the list, or know a guy who knows a guy on the list, that might be a good person to contact to see how best to proceed. Doing this can help you evaluate the process based on your knowledge of the property.

The summary list of Inspection items runs the gamut. Pretty much everything is broken down and documented into a simple report on the home. If issues come up that need to be Re-Inspected be sure to be clear and take good notes. Make sure you understand what its going to take to resolve the issue. Re inspection fees can add up, taking time off the table if you don't plan properly.

I will include some more links to the city of Minneapolis website covering these topics below, in some cases you may need to have a city Inspection done of an improvement or may just have a question City Of Minneapolis housing inspections.

That wraps up todays article on the Minneapolis TISH process.
